We’re checking in with former Rhino Select player, Nate Fritts, who is now attending and playing lacrosse at Bowdoin College in Maine.

Tell us how college is going so far? College is amazing. There is always something to do, people to see, etc. etc. so there is never a dull moment.

How have your practices been going? Very well, especially this fall ball with scrimmages and training that our team does on its own.

How much time and energy are you putting into lacrosse? Quite a bit, but it is not a full time job, which is great because I never feel burnt out on the sport.

Have you picked a major yet? Not technically, but I am almost positive I am going to major in biology.

Do you notice a difference in lacrosse from the west coast to the east coast? Stick skills and knowledge are better across the board, there are very few weak links, and everything happens quicker. Although this is a difference more between college and high school ball not simply west vs. east coast.

fritts1How did Rhino Lacrosse help improve your game? Having the stick in my hands and playing year round was the absolute best thing that could have happened before coming to college and Rhino made that possible.

Did Rhino help prepare you for college lacrosse? If so how? The coaching staff Rhino always provides has both played and, in some cases, coached at the college level, so they gave me a heads up on exactly what to expect and how to prepare.

You were a part of the Rhino Select Travel teams, how did this program help you in the recruiting process? The Rhino fall select team my senior year was a huge reason I came out east and visited schools, like Bowdoin, and met coaches.

Now that you have achieved your goal of playing college lacrosse, what is your new lacrosse goal? To start. Hopefully this year.

How’s Maine treating you? Pretty well. It is very similar to Oregon in terms of the environment and people; except for it gets way too stinking cold. For example, it snowed in October, that’s ridiculous.

What do you miss most about Oregon? The city. Out here I have access to plenty of outdoors just like in Oregon, but I miss Portland itself.

Any message for young players wanting to play lacrosse at the next level? Don’t ever be satisfied. Always strive to be better even when you feel you are at the top because when you hit college, you will not be the best unless you do.
